My client from madeira asked me to design the most advanced arcade cabinet in the world.
Almost every idea I pitched got a full yes.
Electronically adjustable playing height
A separate display in the control panel for each player
Two drawers with six controllers and two light guns
A 50-inch main screen
Hotas Warthog Flightstick
He also added his own ideas:
Include a real Xbox Series X, a Nintendo Switch, and a PlayStation V.
So I got to work...
Designing a 50-inch cabinet is challenging enough — even without needing it to rise electronically.
For the height-adjustable mechanism, I repurposed the skeleton of an industrial-grade sit/stand desk. It provided the strength and precision needed to handle the cabinet's size and weight.
To make this work, the upper and lower parts had to align perfectly. That meant I had very little room for error during construction.
Because of the sheer weight — this is by far the heaviest cabinet I’ve ever built — I had to reinforce the base structure to prevent bowing under load.
The end result exceeded both my expectations and the client’s.
Everything came together exactly as designed. The game consoles are a real eye-catcher, beautifully showcased in the underside of the cabinet — lit from above by subtle LED strips that bring them to life.
The drawer inlays turned out beautifully, and I was honestly relieved that all the controllers and light guns fit perfectly!
The control panel was by far the most complex I’ve ever worked on:
Four players, each with eight buttons.
Five integrated screens.
A HOTAS Warthog flight stick.
LED-lit cupholders.
That panel alone was a serious challenge — but incredibly satisfying to pull off.
