Context of the Project
Chris had some interesting ideas for his arcade. First of all, he wanted a 43-inch mega-size monitor. He also pointed out several features he liked from my previous builds, such as the inlaid keyboard. He preferred a wired version to avoid the hassle of changing batteries and dealing with wireless connection issues. Additionally, he liked the drawer from my Sekiro build and requested artwork in a specific Apple II style.
Problem to Solve
This design involved several new miters, which required very precise cutting of the plywood panels. The marquee screen had to be positioned vertically at a 90-degree angle, rather than the standard angled placement parallel to the main monitor that I usually use. I also discovered a better way to hide the drawer by using a foldable panel with locking hinges. The rest of the build was pretty straightforward!
Artwork
This was a tough one. Sahaj did a great job creating the Apple-inspired design. When I first saw it on my monitor, I was skeptical about how it would look in real life. We spent time tweaking the exact coloring—not too yellow, not too grey—it had to be just right. Even when the vinyl arrived, I still wasn’t convinced it was the right choice.
But wow, was I wrong.
Once we applied it to the cabinet, it truly came to life. Combined with the button inlays, the marquee bevel, and all the other small details, this build transformed into one of my best cabinets yet.
Result
The cabinet was built in July 2024 and shipped to the southern part of Spain. Chris sent me some great pictures of the huge crate being transported to his home.
